IP67 Micro Switch

IP67 is a higher level of protection level standard issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which means that the equipment has strong dust and water resistance. This standard is suitable for electronic products and industrial equipment with strict requirements for harsh environments.

Dust resistance (first digit "6")

The number 6 means "completely dustproof". This means that the device completely prevents dust particles from entering the body under standard test conditions and will not cause any damage to internal components. It is the highest level of solid protection.

 Water resistance (second digit "7")

The number 7 means "can withstand short-term immersion in water". The device can be immersed in clear water at a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes without water ingress or failure. This level of waterproof performance is suitable for a variety of outdoor, humid or temporary immersion environments.

IP40 Micro Switch

IP40 is a basic protection level, mainly used for devices with low environmental requirements and no risk of liquid contact. It provides a certain degree of protection against solid objects, but no protection against water.The numbers represent the following as shown in the figure on the right:

 Dust resistance (first digit "4")

The number 4 means that the device can prevent solid foreign objects (such as small tools, metal wires, etc.) with a diameter greater than or equal to 1.0 mm from entering the device. This means that it can basically withstand most human hand touches or larger foreign objects, but dust and fine particles can still enter.

 Waterproof capability (second number "0")

The number 0 means that the device has no waterproof protection. Once exposed to water drops, splashes or high humidity, the device may malfunction or be damaged.

Waterproof micro switch structure

There are not many internal parts of the waterproof micro switch. After disassembly, as shown in the right picture, it can be divided into a handle, a sealed button, a waterproof shell, a metal contact piece, and a terminal block from top to bottom.

    As a trigger element, it has a push-to-trigger switch, and there are various lever types.
  • Sealed Button
    An additional sealing ring button blocks water vapor and triggers the circuit when pressed.
  • Waterproof Shell
    Sturdy and sealed, dustproof and waterproof to protect internal components.
    Metal Contact Sheet
    There is a highly conductive metal sheet inside, which adopts a spring mechanism design. When triggered by external force, it reacts quickly and completes the on-off switching.
    Terminal Block
    Located at the rear of the shell, it is responsible for signal output. Common forms include PCB board, welding or screw crimping.

Application of waterproof micro switch in automobile ignition device

    Waterproof Micro Switch Testing & Certification Standards Explained

    The IP67 waterproof test is relatively strict. The internationally recognized test standard is that the switch must undergo a fine dust intrusion test in a dustproof room for 8 hours , and then be completely immersed in clean water at a standard depth. If it can work stably for half an hour, it is considered to meet the standard. For detailed test specifications, please refer to the IEC official standard interpretation. Nowadays, it has been simplified to work at a depth of 15 cm underwater for half an hour to meet the IP67 test standard.

    For waterproof type switches, such as the G3 sealed subminiature micro switch, the standard electrical service life is 100,000 times and the mechanical service life is 500,000 times.     Is the G91 series a low-profile version of the G9 waterproof series that is not waterproof?

    These are two different micro switch series. Although the basic appearance and current type are similar, but the G91 is dustproof and the G9 is waterproof. The handles are not shared! The maximum current of the G9 is 5A, and the G91 can reach 10A.

    What is the temperature range of waterproof micro switches?

    The operating temperature range of standard micro switches is -40℃ to +85℃. Special customized models can withstand extreme environments with temperatures up to +125℃.
